Jeju island : Day 1

OK,
This is my first posting and I want to write about my recent trip to Jeju island which is the largest island in Korea. The island is very exotic place in Korea and it is famous for its natural beauty.

I have been there around 7,8 years ago by school trip.
To be honestly, I couldn't remember what did I do and see in Jeju island on that time.
The memories I could remember is that I went to some natural places and took pictures with my friends and we sneaked drinking beer at night. :-)
We were very busy to follow our school teachers to go to certain routes.
Yeah, that's all.
This was my memories about this beautiful island until last days.

From last december,
I really needed to travel somewhere for reorganizing my things, so I wanted to go some place where no one knows me. So, My friends said she went Jeju island last summer for vacation and it was AWESOME. She said we can take airplane and it will make us feel like traveling overseas. Also, That place is still Korea so we will not get any problems like money, communication.. like that. Smart phone help us from any emergency!!
So, we decided to go to JEJU Island :-)

We booked a flight ticket on website: interpark.com
and we took the cheapst ticket from that site. It was around 80.000won(04.01.2013) for a round-trip ticket.
And then, We met at Kimpo airport on our traveling day started.
My short trip started with my lovely friends.

One hour after the take-off, we arrived at Jeju Island! Yey!
Here is in front of Jeju International airport. When you get out of the airport, this kind of trees are welcomed you to visit. It's so different with Seoul. So warm and exotic.

This is the map we walked and visited.
We arrived at Jeju international airport around 12pm, we planned to go to U-do which is another island located on the eastern side.
We didn't rent a car, so we took a bus. Yes, It was our bus and taxi trip. :-)
So, First, we headed to go to bus terminal by taxi and took a bus head to Seong-san which is close by a port to U-do.

The bus from Jeju-si to Seoung-san takes around 1 and half hours and the bus's last stop is a port. It was quite long time to get there by bus but it was fun becuase we were together. :-)
Anyway, we arrived the last stop and went to the port for buying a ferry ticket.
At the port, we wrote out about ourselves simply like name, age and phone number and then we got on a ferry.

It takes around 15 min to U-do.
There is pretty big place to stay inside on the ferry. But It is Korean style to stay relaxed. There are nothing inside. No chairs to sit, But just floor. very warm floor. So, people should take off their shoes first, and then sit or lie down on the floor. It will make your body very warm. :-) But me and my friend were outside of the room and we just looked at the view from the ship. looking at a wide and deep blue sea and feeling cool wind. and It was pretty cold.....

When we got to U-do, we rented two ATV(is that right name? I don't know exactly..) and it costed 20.000 won for 2 hours.
We drove along the coast and It was really awesome. Cool wind made my things in my head clean.
Let's forget everything and just Enjoy now. Enjoy your lovely life, Honey. :-)

While driving along the coast, We found a beach that the ocean looks very beautiful color.
We were crazy about here. We took so many pictures with this emerald ocean.

**Can you see the female statue in the picture? She is called "Haenyeo" which means Women diver. They go deep into the sea to pick seafood. More surprising is they are known to be able to hold their breath for almost 10 minutes under the sea.

Kyungpa is a cover model for Olle Kkul-ppang (Olle Honeybread: Kkul means Honey, Ppang means Bread in Korean)
Olle honeybread has different kinds of taste such as a mandarin, a cactus and green tea.

We enjoyed U-do with ATV for 2 hours and It's time to go back to Jeju island from U-do.
We waited for the ferry and we headed to Seongsan Ilchulbong(Seongsan Sunrise Peak).

We were at Seongsan Ilchulbong for watching sunset even Ilchul means sunrise. :-)
Too many stairs were waiting for us. I think it took around 30-40 min to get the top. It was very hard for us to get there becuase we were not ready for hiking.....

We took a rest on the way and watch the beautiful sunset
And then, We arrived at the top. We relaxed at there by watching the view and took many pictures.
And time to go.
Night was coming. :-)

**Behind of us in the picture is Seongsan Ilchulbong. It is an archetypal tuff cone formed by hydrovolcanic eruptions upon a shallow seabed about 5 thousand years ago. This tuff cone is 182 meters high. <Wikipedia>

We were very hungry and tired after walking up the hill, We went to the guest house we booked, and asked to staff of the guest house where is a great restaurant around here and he told us one restaurant. :-)
We ate that Korean food as you can see in the picture above.
The food called Sundubu Jjigae (soft tofu stew). It was very yummy. it's because it was really good, plus+ we were really starving. :-D

Our first day in Jeju passed pleasantly. :-)
Good night Jeju.
